How would you describe your role and its importance to Spectrum?

The Spectrum Coordinator is the main contact between the Spectrum team and external groups such as the University, corporations, and Spectrum guests. I am also extremely privileged to lead the amazing Spectrum executive team.

What do you find most exciting about Spectrum?

Guests of all ages and knowledge backgrounds will leave Spectrum knowing more about science and engineering than they did before, but the most exciting outcome of Spectrum is the hundreds of guests that leave with a thirst for knowledge and creativity that drives them towards new discoveries and innovations. Spectrum exists to inspire these people.

What do you think is the coolest engineering achievement (ancient or modern)?

I think bridges are very cool. This is partly because I am in Civil Engineering and partly because I live across the river from the university so if we didn’t have bridges I would have to swim to school.

If you were a box of cereal, what would you be and why?

Plain steel cut oats because I love fibre and oats are sustainable as heck.

How would you describe your role and its importance to Spectrum?

I ensure proper documentation and develop major Spectrum publications including the magazine. My role is important because without documentation, Spectrum would not be able to run effectively and have records for future Spectrums.

What do you find most exciting about Spectrum?

The opportunity to bring together people who are excited and passionate about science, technology, and the advancements being made.

What do you think is the coolest engineering achievement (ancient or modern)?

The hypocaust, it was an invention created by the Romans to have central heating for homes.

If you were a box of cereal, what would you be and why?

Cinnamon Toast Crunch because I’m sweet and love sugar as much as those crazy squares from the commercial.

What do you find most exciting about Spectrum?

Learning about new developments in engineering and other technical fields. Being able to build relationships with people in other disciplines of engineering and careers than my own. Getting to teach others about engineering!

What do you think is the coolest engineering achievement (ancient or modern)?

Concrete. It’s insane.

If you were a box of cereal, what would you be and why?

How would you describe your role and its importance to Spectrum?

As the personnel executive, I am in charge of the people. I will be recruiting, organizing and managing the volunteers for Spectrum. Without all of our incredible volunteers, Spectrum would not be possible!

What do you find most exciting about Spectrum?

Spectrum provides such an incredible opportunity for people to show their passion for science. By sharing your own passion, it can inspire others to find their own. I hope that Spectrum positively impacts someone, as it did for me in the past.

What do you think is the coolest engineering achievement (ancient or modern)?

I believe one of the coolest engineering achievements is the development of the synchrotron light source. It has made such a profound impact in so many different fields. The only one in Canada, the Canadian Light Source, is found right in our backyard on campus! Come check it out at Spectrum!

If you were a box of cereal, what would you be and why?

Does dipping cookies in my coffee count as cereal?

How would you describe your role and its importance to Spectrum?

As Productions Exec I am primarily responsible for organizing the student displays, ensuring they meet basic requirements, and have everything they need to operate for the event.  Would be pretty boring without anything to see.

What do you find most exciting about Spectrum?

It is a chance to see all of the different areas that engineers are working in as well as how they work together to achieve some very amazing goals.

What do you think is the coolest engineering achievement (ancient or modern)?

The invention and improvement of mechanical/electrical computation devices (computers) which has exponentially accelerated the progress of scientific discovery.  Humans bottled lightning, channeled it through sand, and used it to do everything from automating assembly lines to flying spaceships.

If you were a box of cereal, what would you be and why?

Honey Nut Cheerios; wholesome, sweet, and a little nutty.

How would you describe your role and its importance to Spectrum?

As the Executive of Public Relations for Spectrum 2019, it is my responsibility to promote Spectrum both on and off campus. The Public Relations sub-committee oversees media relations and publicity.

What do you find most exciting about Spectrum?

The most exciting aspect of Spectrum for me is helping to showcase S.T.E.M. to a broad audience. I think it is important to inspire and encourage the worlds next engineers.

What do you think is the coolest engineering achievement (ancient or modern)?

I think the coolest engineering achievement is the steam engine. It’s creation signified the dawn of the industrial revolution and since then engines have only become a more significant part of our lives.

If you were a box of cereal, what would you be and why?

If I were a box of cereal, I would be Apple Cinnamon Cheerios because they bring flavour into the morning.
